David started off his life as a performer at a very young age. After discovering a natural ability to escape from rope restraints at the tender age of seven he spent his childhood allowing friends and family to tie him to chairs, tables, lamp posts and trees, or just hog-tie him on the floor. He also found a passion for the old American circuses, and before he was ten had started studying the secrets of many of the sideshow stunts and escapes he performs today.
David holds a variety of World Records, and is always ready to take on new and interesting escape challenges. He is one of only a few people in the world today who can swallow a real sword.
Always a complete show off, he also developed a taste for practical jokes and deadly stunts at a young age. He was well known as the kid who would do anything to get a laugh.
After leaving school David went to college to study drama and in his spare time practised juggling, which soon became his professional living for a few years. Following college he trained in theatre at Arden in Manchester and in circus skills at Greentop Circus School in Sheffield. He then went on to perform professionally as a trapeze artist and tightrope walker.
On top of spending the last ten years performing as a sideshow artist David co-founded the ‘Straitjacket Circus’ and has taken escapology and sideshow stunts to venues up and down the country and as far afield as Europe, The US, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Russia, Dubai and all over mainland Europe.
On top of his performing schedule. David continues to develop new skills and routines. He is currently filming a one hour TV special, and creating his own one man theatre show.
Nikki Waters (The lovely assistant)
No show would ever go ahead without Nikki working flat out to get everything just right. As well as being David’s combined stage manager, on stage assistant, photographer, crisis counsellor, safety officer and first aider, Nikki is also a highly skilled circus performer in her own right, and is an accomplished Arabic and African dancer.
She is also the other co-founder of ‘The Straitjacket Circus’ and has been performing and producing art for ten years. After leaving school she worked in various jobs including PA and sales liaison manager before going off to travel the world for three years. She then attended Manchester University and obtained a degree in Fine Art. Nikki has one son, Josh.
Nikki is also responsible for handling bookings and manages David’s diary behind the scenes. Busy girl!
